Come and celebrate the kick-off of summer Decatur-style at Summer in the City on Friday, June 15 from 5 to 11 pm in downtown Decatur. Beach meets the street with pop-up cultural performances, a DJ, live music, a sandy “beach,” and more. Best of all, admission is FREE. Gather up those sand toys and come ready to play in 80 tons of sand on Ponce De Leon Avenue. For a small fee, kids can enjoy face painting, boardwalk games, a climbing wall, and other activities.
Enjoy pop-up entertainment by a variety of musical and dance acts, and get funky with DJ Quasi Mandisco. At 8 pm on the MARTA Plaza stage, Bogey and the Viceroy return to deliver classic soul, retro rock/pop, and current chart toppers. The eight-piece group, led by New Orleans native Bogey Thornton, is famous for packed dance floors and good times, so get ready for a great evening of dancing under the stars.
Gather up those sand toys and come ready to play as this year Summer in the City is bringing in even more beach than before, with 80 tons sand hitting Ponce De Leon Avenue. Kids’ activities will line the boardwalk area, and for the older kids we are bringing back the rock climbing wall and other exciting games.
The food court will include food trucks, boardwalk fare, and a selection of local Decatur beers. Wine, soft drinks and water will also be available for purchase. All of the restaurants will be open for business and many will be serving special Summer in the City menu items.
Thanks to our generous sponsors, this is no longer a gated event, admission is free, and the event has been expanded. There will be small fees for face painting, souvenirs, and some of the larger kids’ activities. All proceeds go back to the Decatur Business Association to help keep this event, May and September concerts, the holiday bonfire, and many others throughout the year free to the community.
