When asked on the street about comedian Hari Kondabolu, the first thing that will pop into the minds of many is his unique brand of making people laugh about tough issues. Kondabolu is a comic who uses taboo subjects to make people feel both uncomfortable and make them hold their stomachs in laughter at the same time. Be sure to check him out when the acclaimed comic comes to Atlanta this Friday night!
Kondabolu has brought laughter and awareness to subjects such as race, inequality, and gay rights; and while not every comedian can use those sensitive subjects to a positive, and hilarious, effect, Kondabolu has mastered the craft. Part of the reason why Kondabolu feels comfortable with talking about these subjects is that he’s lived through them, and experience can serve as a wonderful tool for bringing sensitive subjects to light.
Born and raised in New York City, the young Kondabolu seemed like he was destined to follow in the footsteps of his parents, who were both physicians. Instead, he took the route of comedy, and in 2006, his act began to gain a notable following. That big break came in Seattle when a booker for HBO’s Comedy Festival saw Kondabolu on stage at the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival. From there, Kondabolu has made appearances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “The Daily Show,” and a host of others; and, he has nabbed a few comedy specials along the way.
Now, he’ll be on the road to deliver his brand of “alternative comedy” to the masses, which includes a stop at Center Stage in Atlanta on March 1st. Be sure to check him out when he performs live this Friday!
